The beauty maintenance game is crazy! While there is an abundance of beauty salons in every neighborhood, every bad bitch deserves a place they can deem ‘their spot’. If you’re serious about your beauty game, then reliability, time efficiency and results are the three most important qualities to look for in a salon. A Queens girl at heart, I prefer to keep it local and support small businesses within my radius. Ready for my suggestions? Check them out below.
Let’s talk about hair! A dear friend of mine once recommended this place. From first, cut and blow dry, I was in love. For about a year and a half now, I’ve entrusted my girl Josephine with my naturally curly/wavy/frizzy locks. Josephine keeps it real. If I come in with a crazy hair idea, she knows exactly how to interpret my vision to suit my hair texture and lifestyle preferences. She understands versatility as I like to regularly heat style my hair and occasionally let the natural curls rock.
With Josephine, less is more. We always opt for a half head of blonde highlights, strategically placed to grow out into a balayage. This technique allows me to go months without needing color again, doesn’t damage the integrity of my hair and brings out a beautiful au natural sun kissed look!
Price: ~$120 for half head of highlights, ~$60+ cut & blow dry
Best Times To Go: This beautiful salon is always busy with the whirring sounds of blow dryers and chatty clients! Make sure to book a few weeks in advance to secure a manageable date and time.

D & S Beauty Salon
This is my one stop shop for all things hair removal. Every two weeks I stop by D & S Threading Salon to get my eyebrows and upper lip threaded. I prefer threading because it creates a natural look for the brow and doesn’t irritate my skin like wax often does.
Additionally, I also get my bikini/brazilian waxes here. Back in the day I got suckered into European Wax Center’s wax pass nonsense. First of all, their wax - hurts! It’s difficult to get an appointment and they’re constantly trying to sell you on product and packages. At the end of the day, I just want a good, almost painless wax. At D & S, I can walk in anytime, a bikini/brazilian wax takes up to 15 minutes and it’s not even that painful! Best of all, the price is right at $35 for the ‘sensitive wax’.
Price: $10 eyebrow & lip thread, $35 for sensitive wax brazilian wax
Best Times: Be first in line and get there early for when they first open or go during the week to avoid busy weekend times. Walk in only.

Bela Herbal Beauty on 101 Ave
Ever wondered what you could do with the little baby hairs on your cheeks, forehead and chin? No offense, but waxing and threading sounds like it would hella hurt! A friend suggested that I get ‘clear complexion’ at her spot in the hood. Bela Herbal Beauty uses a product from India called Olivia Herb Bleach, which contains Haldi, Chandan, Nimbu and Aloe Vera. How exoctic! It works to soothe skin and lighten the peach fuzz on your face. All you have to do is sit with it on for about 10 minutes while it works its magic. A glow-up for sure! I loved how clear and bright my skin looked for weeks after the treatment and felt more confident to go foundation-less.
Best Times: During the week after work, except for Fridays - unless you’re willing to wait.
Location: 119-20 101st Avenue South Richmond Hill, NY 11419 (718) 849-8535
